Overview
Following a competitive tender process, Positive About Inclusion was delighted to be commissioned by WJEC to review, redesign, and strengthen their Equality Impact Assessment (EIA) framework. WJEC is the leading awarding body for Wales, providing GCSEs, A levels and vocational qualifications to learners across the UK. Our goal was to ensure that equality considerations are embedded consistently and meaningfully across all decision-making processes.

Our Approach

  • Review: We conducted a detailed analysis of WJEC’s existing EIA framework and provided interim support to ensure assessments were completed effectively during the review period.
  • Redesign: Working collaboratively with WJEC colleagues, we developed a refreshed EIA approach that is practical, inclusive, and aligned with current equality legislation and best practice.
  • Training: We delivered tailored training sessions to build confidence and capability across teams, ensuring the new framework is understood and applied consistently. We designed and developed and e-learning package compatible with the WJEC Learning Management System to ensure all colleagues are confident, competent and compliant with the updated approach.

Outcomes Achieved

  • A robust, user-friendly EIA framework that supports fair and transparent decision-making.
  • Improved confidence and understanding among WJEC staff in applying equality principles.
  • Enhanced organisational capability to evidence inclusive practice and continuous improvement.

“Thank you so much to Lucy and Karen for all of their support with this project. The feedback we have had from training session attendees has been really positive – we appreciate you planning and facilitating these so well!”
