Positive About Inclusion was commissioned by Trent & Dove to facilitate an EDI workshop for their Board. The brief was to design and deliver an engaging in person workshop to form part of a planned ‘away day’, facilitating the Board’s discussion on how to further develop the organisation’s approach to equality, diversity and inclusion. Following the successful delivery of the Board workshop, we were then asked to support the team to finalise their Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Strategy and associated action plan.
About the Client
Trent & Dove are a housing association who provide well-maintained, affordable homes across East Staffordshire, South Derbyshire, and North West Leicestershire. Trent & Dove have a stock of over 6,000 properties, ranging from sheltered accommodation to family homes and everything in between.
Challenges and Objectives
Trent & Dove required a session that gently challenged the Board to reflect on their draft EDI Strategy and action plan. The workshop needed to raise awareness, highlight sector best practice and as a result require participants to reflect upon whether the current draft Strategy and plan went far enough or whether there was more the Board wanted to commit to achieving in the five year lifespan of the EDI Strategy.
Because the workshop was so positively received, we were then invited to support the team at Trent & Dove to make amendments and improvements to the EDI Strategy and action plan, aligned to the discussions and consensus reached during the workshop.
Solution
We designed and delivered a fast-paced and engaging two hour workshop interlaced with activities to challenge the Board to reflect on their current position and where they would like to get to in the next five years.
Following the workshop, we worked with the team to support their revision of the EDI Strategy and action plan, to align it with the feedback and discussions held during the workshop.
Impact
The workshop certainly achieved the outcomes desired with both the Board Members and Trent & Dove colleagues in attendance enjoying the opportunity to update their contextual understanding and reflect on their role and responsibilities and next steps.
“Thank you for the presentation and discussion. It was great to hear the conversation and discussion generated from yourselves and the Board. This was exactly what we had hope for.”
