Positive About Inclusion was commissioned by Tpas to deliver an equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI) workshop as part of their annual team away day and festive celebrations to be held in December 2022. The brief was to deliver a 90 minute in-person session that was both informative and gently challenging, fitting seamlessly into the schedule and overall objectives for the day.
About the Client
Tpas is England’s leading tenant engagement experts, a not-for-profit membership organisation representing their members since 1988 and promoting, supporting and championing tenant involvement and empowerment in social housing. Membership is made up of local tenants and landlord organisations, covering 3 million homes with a growing commercial membership of contractors, sub-contractors and affiliates.
Challenges and Objectives
Tpas required a workshop that would engage with all team members including a number of newer colleagues, providing a solid foundation of what equality, diversity and inclusion are and why they matter, and focussing specifically on the importance of language in creating and sustaining an inclusive culture. The session was required to be outcome-focussed with an exploration of the current EDI trends within the social housing sector.
Solution
We designed and delivered an engaging workshop to provide the required EDI refresher for existing staff and induction for newer colleagues, ensuring everyone reached a shared level of understanding. The importance of language and updating our thinking in an evolving world was explored using a Language Traffic Lights activity which garnered a high-level of engagement and debate from all attendees. The workshop was completed with a discussion on the current themes and trends within the social housing sector and our joint roles in providing the range of support and facilitation needed for the mutual organisations with whom we work.
