Equality Impact Assessments – the what, the why and the how

We’ve been totally (and pleasantly) surprised about the amount of work we have been doing on Equality Impact Assessments since setting up Positive About Inclusion. We’ve worked with 3 housing associations, one further education college, a funding alliance and delivered a workshop for the National Housing Federation‘s EDI Operational Leads Group.

EIAs, it seems, are a hot topic!

Whilst the organisations we’ve worked with are varied the issues would appear to be the same:

  • Getting everyone’s buy-in and understanding of the value an EIA can bring
  • Providing those involved with the fluency about the Protected Characteristics so they can confidently complete EIAs and take the learning into their day to day activities
  • Having a comprehensive an yet accessible template and guidance notes to support those carrying them out
  • Ensuring there is an effective wrap around in terms of communication to share learning and best practice, along with decent house-keeping arrangements to ensure actions identified are completed

We’ve taken the learning we’ve gained from working with these organisations to create some guidance notes and top tips. Please click on the title below which is a link to the guidance notes. We hope you find them useful and of course if you would like any support to help your organisation to embed Equality Impact Assessments then please contact us.
