Last year we were commissioned by Broadacres Housing Association to design and deliver an unforgettable colleague conference with a difference! Held over 6 days, all staff attended a half day session with Positive About Inclusion exploring why Broadacres cares about EDI and how colleagues can make a positive impact.
Following successful delivery of this series of events, we were invited back by the Broadacres Leadership Team to deliver an online briefing session, designed specifically for their Board.
During the session, we provided an overview of the content delivered to all colleagues during the in-person workshops, including the Broadacres CARES acronym. In addition we explored the role of a housing association Board to:
-
Ensure Equity – how is the Board tracking progress against inclusion objectives and ensure that decision-making takes the broadest range of views into account?
-
Embrace Diversity – how diverse is the Board? Is non-visible diversity amplified and are pathways created for under-represented groups to join? How do they embrace diverse perspectives not ‘at the table?
-
Operate Inclusively – what can we do as individual Board members and as a collective to mitigate the biases and assumptions we hold?
Members were provided with a handy resource following the workshop to continue the learning and discussion beyond the session, exploring ways to embed these considerations into the regular Board business.
“Thanks to both Lucy and Karen for leading the session with the Board yesterday evening. The questions we were posed provided some really good food for thought for Board colleagues and the team and I’m looking forward to having further discussions with them.”
