Our Directors, Lucy and Karen were delighted to be invited to speak at the HQN EDI Network Annual Summit, opening the conference with our thoughts on the social housing regulatory landscape and how this has been interpreted in our session titled ‘Lost in Translation – Regulation vs Delivery’.

The conference, Chaired by Sapphire Independent Housing’s Chief Executive Heather Thomas was attended by over 50 housing professionals from social housing providers across the country, and focused on deepening our understanding of the new government’s equalities agenda and what this means for housing.

During their presentation, Lucy and Karen reflected on:

  • The revised regulatory landscape and what has changed from an equity, diversity and inclusion perspective
  • What cultural and societal shifts prompted the change in regulation
  • How social housing providers have responded to these changes
  • Best practice and areas requiring improvement identified from our observations of and experience working with a range of providers, large and small, across the country

Time for questions and answers was available at the end, and a fascinating discussion took place on the comparison between approaches to embedding EDI adopted within the social housing sector and how these compared with the other industries Positive About Inclusion has operated within. Lucy and Karen shared their thoughts based on both their personal and professional experience, reflecting that working outside of the sector had given a fresh perspective with lots of opportunities for learning from others and working in partnership.

Feedback given was overwhelmingly positive with many attendees expressing their thanks for a fascinating presentation and exploration of Lost in Translation – Regulation vs Delivery.
