We were delighted to announce at the start of the year that one of our Directors and Co-Founders, Lucy Malarkey, had been appointed to the role as Managing Director of WISH (Women in Social Housing). WISH is a network for women across all disciplines of social housing, providing welcoming networking events, in-person and online, to inspire and support women. Lucy is carrying out this role one day a week and dedicating the rest of her time to Positive About Inclusion.

Lucy has always been an advocate of the value of networks and in March she shared her social housing career story, celebrating women in social housing, in a blog published by the National Housing Federation to celebrate women’s history month. In the blog Lucy talked about the three valuable lessons she has learnt during her time in the sector and how these have strengthened her belief in the value of networking.

“As I reflect on my career journey, I can’t help but wonder how my choices may have been different if I’d had the opportunity back then to be part of a network like WISH. But, we can’t go backwards and as the as the wonderful Maya Angelou said, you can only ‘Do the best you can until you know better. Then when you know better, do better.’ As Managing Director of WISH, I’m committed to doing better, continuing the work to attract female talent into social housing and creating environments for women that are welcoming, inclusive and diverse.”

In further celebration of the role of role of women in social housing, Housing Digital published an article about Lucy’s priorities and plans for WISH. In the article Lucy said how important it is that in a world where women are still disenfranchised that they have a safe space to have the opportunity to come together and connect. Women’s networks provide that space, women’s network are invaluable on the journey to equality and inclusion.
