Today our Directors Lucy and Karen are proud to celebrate Social Enterprise Day 2024 (November 21st) – a great opportunity to help raise awareness and understanding of social enterprises as well as celebrating the positive impact they make.

The theme for Social Enterprise Day 2024 is ‘Sustainability: Money, Mindset, and Making a Difference.’ Running a purpose-driven business in the current economic climate can certainly have it challenges. Like many small social enterprise, we are continuously working towards building a sustainable business with a strong legacy. We are focussed on making a positive difference to the clients with whom we work and the communities they serve.

Our model is simple – we use the surplus generated from commercial activity to provide our services pro bono to local VCSE organisations who would otherwise not be able to access these. This means when clients engage with us, the difference they make is not just within their own organisation but wider social value is achieved. And we measure our impact and the positive social value we achieve, whether it’s delivering training to a local charity or facilitating the Inclusion Forum North East, a free in-person networking event for professionals with a passion for inclusivity to learn, network and share best practice.

“I’m unbelievably proud of what we’ve achieved and of our social mission. When we established Positive About Inclusion back in 2020, we wanted it to be a sustainable business of course but I don’t think we ever imagined doing some of the things we’ve subsequently achieved such as setting up the Inclusion Forum North East or working in some of the industries that we have. What we’ve learnt is that a sustainable social enterprise is one that can adapt and be flexible.”

Lucy Malarkey, Director and Co-founder

As we prepare for year five of Positive About Inclusion, we are proud to celebrate our social enterprise credentials and to support our fellow social entrepreneurs who we recognise make an enormous difference locally, regionally and nationally. We wish them all a very successful and sustainable year ahead, and a very happy social enterprise day!
