International Women’s Day is celebrated every year on March 8th to recognise the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women around the world. It’s also a day to raise awareness of gender equality and advocate for women’s rights.

This year Positive About Inclusion was delighted to support our friends at Nexus who were combining their International Women’s Day celebrations with a fundraising event on behalf of The King’s Trust. The King’ s Trust support young people from disadvantaged communities and those facing the greatest adversity, helping them to build the confidence and skills to live, learn and earn.

Hosting a Brilliant Breakfast on behalf of The King’s Trust raises funds to:

  • give young women a working future through training courses with potential employers, access to job opportunities and support with practice interviews.
  • help to cover the costs of work clothes, childcare, equipment or even a young woman’s commute to work before her first paycheque.
  • provide funding for impactful programmes in schools with young women at risk of dropping out – building their skills and confidence for the future.

All of which aligns beautifully and seems so fitting within the context of International Women’s Day.

Our Director, Karen Faulkner was asked to deliver an address and used the opportunity to share her thoughts and personal experiences that had lead her to three tangible and practical actions we can all take responsibility for to #AccelerateAction (the theme for this year’s International Women’s Day) – namely maximising the power of your network, stepping out of your comfort zone and cultivating a learning curiosity.

Presentations were delivered from the amazing West End Refugee Service and Smart Works Newcastle, providing attendees with updates on front-line services being delivered locally to support women and the positive impact these achieved.

Thank so much for supporting the event and for your brilliant talk – it was really insightful and resonated with everyone here.

Rachel Redshaw, People and Culture Director

Thank you so much for giving up your time, your talk was brilliant. Everyone at Nexus is commenting on the event today, as they have heard lots of positive feedback.
