At a Glance
Positive About Inclusion was commissioned by whg to design and deliver equality, diversity and inclusion training for the organisation’s Board and Committee members, the Executive Team, the Senior Leadership Team and for managers and supervisors from across the business. The brief was to create three distinct sessions to be rolled out over the period of a year; one for Board and Committee members, with a focus on context and challenge, another for the Executive and Senior Leadership Teams with a focus on leading the EDI agenda and the third for all of the organisation’s managers and supervisors exploring in particular the practical skills required to be an inclusive people manager. Apart from two of the Board and Committee sessions, all of the other workshops were required to be delivered in person at the whg headquarters in Walsall.
About the Client
whg was formed in 2003 with a mission of being ‘dedicated to the success of our people and places‘, it’s this mission that continues to guide and motivate the organisation. whg provide affordable homes for rent, shared ownership and sale across the Midlands. Working in partnership with their customers to keep their homes safe, secure and comfortable, they create sustainable and resilient communities through investment in people and places.
Challenges and Objectives
The main challenge was to design workshops for these distinct groups that would be engaging, insightful, inclusive and relevant in a social housing and whg context. All of the workshops needed an element of consistency so that similar messages were being received across the organisation about the importance of EDI, the alignment to whg values and the role/responsibility everyone has to create and sustain an inclusive culture.
Solution
We have designed and delivered a number of workshops for whg so far. The online workshops for the Board and Committee members were two hour sessions, all of the face to face workshops have been half day sessions. We have used a range of activities to embed the learning, from ‘Language Traffic Lights’ to ‘Managing Challenging Scenarios’.
Impact
We have thoroughly enjoyed delivering the workshops (as the photo below with Lyndon Campbell, whg’s EDI lead, would suggest!) and we have received lots of positive feedback.
“It’s been a privilege to be able to engage the services of Positive About Inclusion. In their training delivery, Lucy and Karen have brought a level of energy, expertise and enthusiasm that has inspired our colleagues, and helped to cement a culture of inclusion at whg. They won a tender process to deliver an ongoing series of learning activities for us and their proposal has been fully met through the level of commitment, professionalism, flexibility and collaboration that they have demonstrated at all times. I couldn’t be happier with them and would recommend their services to anyone.”
