Positive About Inclusion was delighted to be selected following a competitive tendering process to complete a culture analysis project on behalf of Newcastle University.
The aim of the project, completed over 6 months, was to establish the range of inappropriate behaviours experienced by professionals, academics and PhD students within a research environment.
Through a range of research methodologies including interviews, an anonymous survey, workshops and a literature review, we explored the types of behaviour being experienced, the levels of confidence to address inappropriate behaviour and the efficacy of existing support mechanisms.
Having completed the research we collated our findings into a data rich report identifying current behaviours alongside the barriers and enablers to reporting inappropriate behaviour including an evaluation of how an individual’s tolerance levels can impact on perceptions and behaviours.
Our report included examples of action taken to resolve issues raised and recommendations around improvements which could be adopted by the University to ensure their research community feels psychologically safe and equipped to deal with any future issues.
We presented our findings and recommendations to both the project team and a working group of invested stakeholders.
“Positive About Inclusion was professional in their approach to the project and excellent in engaging and supporting colleagues throughout. They were flexible in their approach, listening to feedback and adapting to the emerging needs of the work, and their report has contributed to an action plan to inform the next phase of our activity.”
