At a Glance

Positive About Inclusion were commissioned by MHA to design and deliver a bespoke day-long, equality, diversity and inclusion workshop for their Communications and Marketing Teams. Delivered in person at the Derby head office, the brief was to really challenge participants to think about their role and responsibilities as the gatekeepers of the MHA brand through an EDI lens.

About the Client

MHA is the largest charity care provider for older people in the UK. MHA offer some of the highest quality care, accommodation and support services throughout Britain. Their mission is to inspire the best care and wellbeing at every stage of later life. Founded by members of the Methodist Church in 1943, today they support over 4,400 older people living in their care homes, 3,000 older people living independently in retirement living communities and 11,100 older people living independently in their own homes across Britain.

Challenges and Objectives

The workshop was required to be engaging and challenging. Providing opportunities for the team to refresh their EDI knowledge and awareness as well as reflect on the relevance of EDI in their work and their position within the MHA infrastructure. One of the key objectives was for members of the team to reflect on their scope of influence and to identify positive steps they could take as individuals and as a team to own and drive the MHA EDI agenda forward.

“Thank you so much for an enlightening, thought-provoking and fun day! Excellent facilitators.”

Sarah Sweet, Internal Communications Manager, MHA

Solution

By setting the EDI refresher element of the workshop within a societal context and through the use of communications and marketing based examples, the workshop provided an opportunity for open discussion and the sharing of best practice. Participants reflected on their spheres of influence to identify the actions and behaviours they could adopt to add value to MHA and beyond.

“Thank you both for such an excellent, thought-provoking session!”

Emily Bird, Head of Communications, MHA

Impact

Participants valued the way in which the refresher training was delivered through an external lens to place it in a current context. Having external, independent facilitators provided an opportunity to discuss the issues with those who could provide a different perspective and challenge. Through the workshop participants identified a personal pledge, a commitment that they will take away from the session and also a set of team commitments around behaviours and ongoing challenge.

“Thank you for a fabulous, thought provoking day’s training! “
