Positive About Inclusion was commissioned by Groundwork Greater Manchester to deliver a full day programme of equality, diversity and inclusion content for their management team and EDI Working Group. The workshop was required to respond to a series of priorities identified by the group, giving attendees confidence and fluency to cascade training throughout the organisation and to embed EDI in their day to day work with colleagues, partners and beneficiaries alike.
About the Client
Groundwork Greater Manchester’s vision is to create a greener, more resilient city region with stronger, healthier communities and enhanced prospects for all local people. Their operation covers all ten boroughs of Greater Manchester and focusses on facilitating the power of communities, delivering jobs and skills for a greener economy, and supporting young people to fulfil their potential. Groundwork Greater Manchester is a subsidiary of Groundwork, a federation of charities mobilising practical community action on poverty and the environment across the UK.
Challenges and Objectives
As the training was to be delivered to the full Senior Management Team, it was required to be engaging and informative, establishing a shared level of understanding with a group of attendees who had a diverse level of EDI knowledge and awareness. A ‘wish list’ of subject areas and learning objectives was provided in advance of the session with the overarching objective that attendees would feel confident and fluent to roll out EDI training to their respective parts of the team following the session.
“Great to spend the day with you, experiencing you doing what you love. Learned lots and inspired to do more!”

Solution
We designed and delivered an engaging full day ‘train the trainer’ workshop, delivered in person and supported with a full resource pack made up of slide decks, transcripts and activity materials. Content was delivered across five modules starting with EDI Foundations (a ‘back to basics’ of what EDI is and why it matters), followed by Effective Challenge, Language Matters, Attracting Diversity (exploring inclusive recruitment practices) and culminating with Data Driven Insight (examining the value in robust data collection and how to maximise the value from information collected). The full workshop was delivered in an energetic style, responding to questions and issues raised throughout a very productive and thought-provoking day.
Karen and Lucy have developed an EDI ‘Train the Trainer’ course for Groundwork Greater Manchester to enable us to cascade a programme of essential in-house training for staff across the organisation. They delivered an excellent day of training for the management team and training staff using these resources which was interesting, informative and thought provoking. We were impressed at how well they were able to develop a programme of learning tailored to our individual needs, clearly informed by an understanding of the range of services and different audiences we work with at Groundwork
