Positive About Inclusion was commissioned by Equal Arts to facilitate an in-person Inclusive Culture Workshop for their Board and Senior Team. The brief was to design and deliver a half day, engaging workshop to support the organisation to consider their current position and prioritise future action on their inclusive culture journey.
About the Client
Equal Arts is a leading creative ageing charity supporting older people and those living with dementia in Gateshead, Newcastle and across the UK. They work to improve the lives of older people through creativity and arts activities around the country, providing creative opportunities to help improve wellbeing.
Challenges and Objectives
Equal Arts required a session that was suitably pitched for participants with a range of EDI knowledge and experience. The session needed to challenge participants to think about their stakeholders and how they could work together to progress their journey, it needed to be creative to align with Equal Arts vision and values and it needed to be bespoke to reflect the EDI progress made by Equal Arts so far.
Solution
We designed an engaging workshop, delivered in person at Equal Arts’ Newcastle office. The workshop was themed around a journey (to inclusivity) and we used a ‘road’ and a selection of vehicles to help participants visualise the journey they are on with their stakeholders.
The day included a number of activities from ‘Pole Position’ (i.e. identifying and describing current activities) to ‘Crossing the Line’ (i.e. the practical steps to be taken to progress EDI related activity). Each of the activities was supplemented with some learning about the subject matter and we shared examples from our experiences.
Impact
The session was really positively received. Those in attendance felt that it had been pitched just right, enabling everyone to feel that they could fully participate. The group enjoyed the opportunity to share their experiences and to discuss their current position. Participants left with a renewed sense of purpose and enthusiasm and a shared set of actions to support the organisation on their journey to inclusivity.
“The session was pitched at exactly the right level for our organisation. Thank you!”
