Positive About Inclusion was commissioned by the Northern Housing Consortium to design and deliver an hour-long session with the full team to support the organisation’s EDI work. The desired outcomes of the session were for participants to increase their awareness and understanding, and to have more confidence and fluency around language and terminology.
About the Client
The Northern Housing Consortium is a not-for-profit membership organisation whose members own or manage 9 out of 10 socially rented homes in the North. The NHC’s events and procurement services extend beyond the North, to over 400 members nationally.
Challenges and Objectives
The request for a workshop focussing on language, terminology and confidence had arisen at an earlier full team event, as such the challenge was to design a session that would be relevant and would resonate with everyone.
Solution
We delivered a bespoke session, designed exclusively for Northern Housing Consortium colleagues. The session was enjoyable, informative and insightful. It was delivered in a ‘safe space’ to encourage active participation and it included an activity, ‘Language Traffic Lights’, designed to address the areas of discomfort recently identified in relation to language, terminology and confidence.
Impact
The session was positively received, everyone engaged in the ‘Language Traffic Lights’ activity, and some great questions and conversations were generated.
“Just wanted to thank you both for the excellent session yesterday. It was fantastic, and the feedback from staff was really positive, so thank you!
